A furious mum’s appeal to find two kids ‘stolen’ bikes in Birmingham has led to them being RETURNED.
A 12-year-old girl, who had only received a bike for her birthday this month, was visiting her friend’s house in Slade Road in Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on Sunday (July 26) when her and her friend’s bike were taken.
The youngster had only just received the bike as a present – but her determined mum scoured the area and found a neighbouring house with a CCTV camera.
She obtained the footage and posted it on Facebook and it was shared hundreds of times in Sutton groups.
In the early hours of Monday morning, a person contacted her with some information that led to an address in Erdington. The bikes were recovered and by 9am had been returned to the family who had put out the appeal.
The 40-year-old mum of two, who lives in Mere Green, said: “My daughter text me and said my bike’s been stolen. I was really mad.
“After she told me her bike had gone, I went out to see if I could see someone. I then came back home and my daughter was home. I popped again and knocked on doors and somebody said they had CCTV.
“I got the CCTV and shared it all over local Facebook groups on Sunday evening.
“Somebody recognised the kids on the CCTV.
“That person couldn’t go to sleep on Sunday night until she spoke to me and told me.
“I shared that information with the other family and was going to let the police know.
“But they had already gone around early on Monday.
“My daughter’s bike was £200. She only had it last week for her birthday. She’d had it two weeks.
“It’s a little bit scratched but it’s OK.”
The mum praised the community for rallying around and sharing her post.
She said: “I didn’t believe it until I saw it. I was shocked that we were able to get it. It was all down to community spirit.
“And those responsible. I would like the police to do a visit.”
West Midlands Police confirmed they are investigating the incident.
A spokeswoman for the force said: “We are investigating after a bicycle was stolen from outside a property in Slade Road, Sutton Coldfield between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on Sunday (26 July).
