Aston Villa have sanctioned the permanent departure of Mbwana Samatta to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
Tanzanian striker Samatta only joined Villa in January to help fill the void left by the injured Wesley Moraes; although there were promising moments – notably his goals in the defeat at Bournemouth and in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City – Samatta never quite took off after the restart.
Villa have moved to strengthen their forward line in the form of Ollie Watkins, and have signed up Keinan Davis to a new long-term deal too. On top of this, Wesley himself is edging ever closer to a return from his long-term injury.

Samatta has signed a four year deal with Fenerbahce.
Still, with the moving on of Borja Baston and Scott Hogan, and with young striker Indiana Vassilev being loaned out for the new season to League One Burton, the striker department is looking light on options – especially while Wesley remains sidelined.
Samatta’s exit has led Villa fans to believe that the club must be drawing closer to sourcing another attacking reinforcement that will boost Smith’s choices.
Aston Villa fans on Samatta exit
Lauren : Samatta out and Davis likely going out on loan surely means another striker coming in?
Paul : Samatta gave us all an amazing moment at Wembley even if it was a goal that didn’t turn the game in our favour. Looked a bit out of his depth after the restart but seems a quick departure when we don’t have many strikers
Andrew Stone : With Samatta off, Hogan gone, Vassilev on loan and Big Wes out until the new year we’re left with just Watkins and Davis as our strikers. I appreciate that Traore can play through the middle. I’d imagine we’ll bring in someone else who can play on the left and up top.
Oxford EV Chargers: In this era of EPL football, shifting players out is as important as getting players in. In Hogan & Samatta we’ve managed to shift 2 unfortunately ineffective CFs that weren’t going to make it at Villa. Clubs cannot afford to have deadwood hanging around.
Diesel P: On a serious note with Hogan and Samatta both gone permanently and Vassilev sent out on loan, surely we have another striker lined up with Wesley out till the new year, cos going with just Watkins and Davis with his injury record would be madness.
ARB0417 : Says a lot about him he moved. Playing is important to him. Many a time we’ve had players happy to sit around & not kick a ball for us. Was tough for him signing & then a month later lockdown in a new country. Wish him nothing but the best.
Alex Lineham: I hope he does well, came to us when we were desperate for a striker but not worked out and partly because of the timing as he was trying to settle in a new country and then this virus came along. No negativity from me for the guy
Cagliari Villa: I wish him all the best, great character and a fantastic personality but ultimately never looked good enough in the Premier League.
