There were 14 new coronavirus deaths across Birmingham and Midlands hospitals – in the highest regional daily rise for months.

It comes as the UK death toll soars by 108 – the vast majority coming in England.

In Scotland there were 13, in Wales there were 10 more deaths and in Northern Ireland there were four more fatalities.

There was one new death at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust.

There were four deaths at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

There were two deaths at Sandwell and West Bromwich Hospitals NHS Trust.

There was one death at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

There was one death at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust.

There was another death at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

There was a death at university Hospitals of Leicetser NHS Trust.

There was one more death at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

There was a further death at Wye Valley NHS Trust.

There was one more Covid-19 death at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust.

Last Thursday, October 8, the hospital death toll tragically rose by 58.

The previous Thursday, October 1, the number of Covid-19 patients who died in UK hospitals rose by 55.

This was an increase from Thursday, September 24, when 33 more hospital deaths were recorded.

On other recent Thursdays, the hospital death toll increased by 21 on September 17 and nine deaths on September 10.

Yesterday the hospital death toll jumped by 97 – the highest increase on a Wednesday for four months.
