13 coronavirus deaths across Birmingham and Midlands as UK toll rises by 98

There were 13 new deaths across Birmingham and the Midlands today as the UK coronavirus death tally rose by a grim 98.

One death was recorded at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

One death was recorded at The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

One death was recorded at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Foundation Trust.

One death was recorded at Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust.

There were two further Covid-19 deaths at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

There were two deaths at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust.

There were two coronavirus deaths at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

There were three deaths at University Hosptals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

There have been a further 979 cases of Covid-19 diagnosed in Wales, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 34,005.

Public Health Wales said five further deaths had been reported, with the total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic rising to 1,703.

There were also nine deaths in Scotland and two in Norther Ireland.

Number 10 said the Prime Minister was not currently looking at imposing a so-called “circuit-breaker” national lockdown.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “I think you’ve heard from the PM on a number of occasions on this topic this week.

“We do keep all measures under review but he has set out this week that he doesn’t believe there should be a national lockdown, and that we believe our three-tiered approach is the right way forward.”
