The three Worcestershire areas where Covid infection rates are now falling

Covid infection rates have now begun to drop in several areas across Worcestershire, new figures have shown.

Cases previously soared dramatically across the county, with positive tests more than doubling in the space of a week in some areas.

However, it appears the third national lockdown, imposed earlier this month, is beginning to have an impact.

Worcester remains the district that has been hit worst by the rapid spread of the virus in recent weeks but the situation is slowly starting to improve, with 696 cases and an infection rate of 687.6 in the seven days to January 14.

This compares to 761 cases and an infection rate of 751.8 in the seven days to January 7 – just a week earlier.

It’s a similar story elsewhere in the county. During the same period, Bromsgrove’s cases dropped from 676 to 570 while Wyre Forest fell from 486 to 423.

However, the infection rates have continued to rise in the districts of Redditch, Wychavon and Malvern Hills.

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Here is the list in full. From left to right, it reads: name of local authority; rate of new cases in the seven days to January 14; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to January 14; rate of new cases in the seven days to January 7; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to January 7.
